Shibaura

changing Tokyo

Shibaura area is located between Tamachi station on Yamanote Line and Tokyo Bay . “Shiba” is the name of the area west of Tamachi station, and “Ura” means seashore . Yes, this area used to be a beach side or under the sea until the modernization of Japan.

After Meiji Restoration 160 years ago, this area was created as a landfill site. Since then, this area had been an industrial area in Tokyo with many factories just until 20 years ago. But after then this area began another change again. The result is in the photo: this area became an office area with many businesspersons.
