The Eye of Shinjuku is located at the entrance point of Shinjuku West Gate, on the sidewalk which leads to Tokyo City Hall. This is one of the most famous monuments close to stations in Tokyo, which means this is used for the landmark to meet with someone.
When it was revealed in 1969, Shinjuku West Gate area was the most urbanized area with two-storied ground level ,one for pedestrians and the other for cars. Soon after the opening of this monument, many skyscrapers have been completed in this area, the first scene for Japanese people. 50 years have passed since then, and this area is experiencing the second wave for reconstruction, including the building which houses this monument. But this eye seems to remain watching the changing Tokyo in the future.
