Kita-Senju

people in town

Senju was designated by Tokugawa Shogunate as the gateway town to the north part of Japan 300years ago. It is located just across a river which runs north of Edo (old name of Tokyo). The first bridge of this river was constructed at that time. Since then, this town has been the crossroad between Tokyo and northeast part of Kanto plain.

Kita-Senju railway station (“kita” means “north”) is about the 10th populated staion in greater Tokyo, but I chose the photo of shopping street nearby. This is the very street which used to be the main road under Tokygawa Shogunate. This road must have seen many pandemics and recoveries, as it is happening right now.
