Toranomon Crossing

changing Tokyo

Toranomon Crossing is where Route 1 and Sotobori-Dori crosses, and where Ginza subway line and Hibiya subway line crosses (though Hibiya line has no station here). Toranomon is the name of this area which came from the name of Edo Castle gate .

Toranomon Crossing is an important crossing: this crossing is where government office area and commercial area meets. This crossing is located at the south end of the government office area. You can see the brown building, which is the office of Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology now. But before WWII that was the office of Ministry of the Home Affairs, which was the top government ministry at that time. That is one of the reasons why Toranomon Crossing is impressive for Japanese people.
