You can find a narrow alley in front of Ota Ward Office. You may think this is a nondescript alley, but actually it is not.
This alley is a legacy of a unique railroad. When WWII ended, US Army occupied key infrastructures of Japan, including Haneda Airport. They found that it is hard to carry goods to Haneda Airport, so they constructed the connection railroad between Kamata Station and Keikyu Kamata Station. At the same time they changed the gauge of Keikyu Line, and started the direct transportation between Tokyo and Haneda Airport through this railroad. After US occupation ended, this connection railroad was abolished, and the space was turned into a narrow alley including this one.
