Ueno-Hirokoji

Ueno-Hirokoji,which is located near Ueno, is one of the main shopping towns in Tokyo. Though it is not ranked among the busiest ones, it has its unique feature: it is one of the oldest shopping towns in Tokyo. The history of this shopping town goes back to 400 years ago, when Shogun of the time constructed this wide road (“Hiro koji” means “wide road”) to visit Kan-eiji Temple, the family temple of Tokugawa Shogunate. Since then, this town has been attracting many shoppers until today, even in this Coronavirus pandemic.
