Around 1970, Ochanomizu was called “Latin Quarter (Quartier latin in French) in Tokyo”. There are many universities and colleges in this area, most of which were under fierce student activism and protest 50 years ago.
After the storm passed away, Ochanomizu came to be called “the capital of musical instruments”. Visit this area and you are sure to agree this alias. There are a lot of shops selling musical instruments ,both new ones and used ones. It is said you cannot find such town in the world other than Ochanomizu. Probably that is true, because this area attracts lots of visitors from outside Japan including famous musicians. I am looking forward to see them again now that the Coronavirus Pandemic seems facing challenges for the first time due to the increase of vaccinated people.
