Hongo

Since Meiji Restoration 150 years ago, Hongo has been represented by the University of Tokyo. It was established at the site of former Daimyo (local rulers in Edo era) residence to catch up with the most advanced western countries at that time.

You can see the University of Tokyo on the left, and you can see many book stores which sell academic books. This area has its own fragrance – the smell of ink, paper, chemical substances, and so on. But what people in this town is waiting for is the students – they want to see lot of them walking on this street like before COVID-19. I believe that day may not be far away.
