Sengakuji temple

people in town

Sengakuji temple is located about one mile north of Shinagawa station. This temple is famous for the tombs of “47 samurai warriors”, who fought to revenge their lord 300 years ago. This means this temple has a long history with high prestige.

The name “Sengakuji” is famous to people in Tokyo for another area : the name of a subway station near the temple. Sengakuji station is the junction of two subway lines (Asakusa line and Mita line), and has many trains which start/end their operations at this station. Interestingly, Sengakuji temple receives many phone calls which ask if the subway is running on schedule or not.
