Tokyo Tower was constructed in 1958 to broadcast then-fledging television signals all over Tokyo. At that time people outside Japan must have thought (or laughed at ) it as an imitation of Eiffel Tower in Paris . Even in Japan, in a few years it lost its shine because many skyscrapers in Tokyo followed it . But, probably after it became 30 years old, it began to regain fame as one of the symbols of Tokyo. Now there are countless skyscrapers in Tokyo, and the title of “the tallest construction in Tokyo” was long before transferred to Tokyo Skytree, Tokyo Tower is attracting more and more people not only from all over the world but from all over Japan.
Fortunately, at least at the moment, the number of COVID-19 patients is staying at low level in Japan. The faces of people in Tokyo look milder than before. I am looking forward to seeing Tokyo Tower with a long line of people both from overseas and from Japan again.
