Hikarigaoka is located in the northwest of Tokyo District. In most cases, the peripheral areas of Tokyo District are filled with small houses, the roads narrow and winding, and hard to say tidy. But Hikarigaoka is one of the exceptions: as you can see, this area was developed under the modern city planning like the areas far from Tokyo District. Before WWII, this area was used for air base of Imperial Japan, and after WWII, it was used as a residential area for US army in Japan for a long time. That is why the developer of Tokyo City can apply modern city planning within Tokyo District 40 years ago.
But even this area seems unable to ward off Japan’s current challenges: aging population and lower birthrate. Though it was a holiday and the numbers of new COVID-19 patients were low, the voices of children were sparse. It is Japanese people who will decide the future of their own country.
