Chidori-ga-fuchi

people in town

Chidori-ga-fuchi is the northwestern part of Royal Palace’s inner moat (“fuchi” means moat). This is the only part where people can enjoy boating on the inner moat; actually the Royal family live on the inner side of this moat(right in this photo). On the outer side of this moat runs jogging path around the Palace. So many people in Tokyo enjoy their holidays in this area.

There is another famous facility in Chidori-ga-fuchi. At one corner of this area, a memorial park for unknown soldiers is located. Considering its purpose, this park should be visited by many Japanese, but in realily it’s not. That is because this park was established 10 years after WWII ended. When Japanese people mourn over soldiers killed in war, they visit Yasukuni shrine, which is located just half a mile in the north from this park .
