Nogizaka

people in town

Nogizaka ,which means “Nogi slope” in Japanese, is actually the name of a street which runs about one-mile in the north of Roppongi.

When you see Nogizaka in the photo , you might have wondered why this nondescriptive street is so famous for Japanese. My view is as follows. Firstly, in 1970s, inconspicuous but fashonable pubs began to choose this street for their business, because it is within a few mitutes’ walk from Roppongi. Secondly, in 1980s , at the peak of “Bubble Economy” , many younsters started to recongize this street as “front-line area of their culture”. Lastly, in late 2010s, a famous group of girl singers chose their name from this street. In summary, the prestige of this street comes from its “low-profile urbanity”, which is the entrenched philosophy for Japanese.
