San-ai Building was one of the four icons of Ginza 4-chome crossing, the center of Ginza shopping mall. Each icon is located at each corner: Hattori Clock Tower, Mitsukoshi Department Store, Nissan Showroom, and this San-ai Building. This is the last scene of this icon.
When this building was completed 60 years ago, people were astonished to see this round-shape, see-through building, and recognized this construction heralded a new era for Tokyo. Since then this building has been attracting attention for shoppers in Ginza street. It became too old to need reconstruction, but the next building ,which is to be completed five years from now, should bring the next era for Tokyo.
