In Ginza area, there are several famous department stores, each of which has its own attractions. Matsuya Department Store in Ginza , called ” Matsuya Ginza” by people in Tokyo, is one of them.
I think Matsuya Ginza has two distinct attractions. One is the size of its shopping space. Up to recent years, It had the largest shopping space in Ginza area. The other is its building. When it opened 100 years ago, it astonished people because of its big atrium and gorgeous decorations. It was so splendid that it was requisitioned by US army during Japan’s occupation period after WWII. Matsuya Ginza still keeps its special position, and now attracting many people not only from Japan but also from overseas.
