“Omote-Sando” means “The primary avenue”. In fact, Omote-Sando is the primary avenue to Meiji Shrine, which is located adjacent to Harajuku Station. Since this important shrine was established 100years ago, Omote-Sando has been the symbolic avenue to it.
But, this avenue wore another role for the latter half of its history. Since 1970s, this avenue became one of the most stylish and fashionable area in Tokyo. Attracted by its sophisticated atmosphere, many top-mode apparel shops opened along this street. You can enjoy Tokyo’s urban culture by walking up and down this avenue.
