Oku is a station on Tohoku line, about 10km north of Ueno station. Located in an area where many small factories and warehouses are located, there are quite a few people who use this station every day . But most people in Tokyo remind by this name of a wide railyard which is used as the base for commute trains.
In Tokyo 23-ku, there are two main railyards for JR-east commute trains : one is this Oku railyard and the other is Shinagawa railyard. But, the latter is changing rapidly now: as Shinagawa is becoming one of the city centers in Tokyo, the latter railyard is being converted to office buildings and commercial facilities. So in the near future Oku railyard will be the only railyard in Tokyo 23-ku, which accommodates most of commute trains for JR east .
