Haneda Airport Terminal 3 is the dedicated terminal for international flights, which means this terminal is the gateway from overseas to Tokyo.
But it opened just 13 years ago. Up to 20 years ago, Haneda Airport was actually for domestic flights only. At that time all international flights were handled by Narita Airport, 50 miles northeast of Haneda, due to the small capacity at that time. But the expansion of land and the construction of an additional runway enabled it to accept more flights , which led to accept international flights.
After the opening ,this terminal has been experiencing rapid growth, except for COVID-10 period. The airport planner is now starting the next expansion plan. It may be far beyond when we see the completion of this terminal.
