Marunouchi Line is the most important subway line in Tokyo next to Ginza Line. It is the 2nd subway line in Tokyo also next to Ginza Line, the construction of which was completed about 10 years after WWII. It is a U-shape line which actually starts at Shinjuku and ends at Ikebukuro. Be careful not to take this subway line when you go from Shinjuku to Ikebukuro or vice versa. (Take Yamanote Line, of course.)
This line has another important feature: it is the only subway line which has “Tokyo Station”. Tokyo Station is so large that it rejects subway stations, but Marunouchi Line is the exception, though there are other subway stations which are located within 10-15 minutes from Tokyo Station. This leads to the convenience that Marunouchi Line connects Tokyo’s top-three stations, Shinjuku, Tokyo, and Ikebukuro.
