Entrance of Kogaku-Dori street

Kogaku-Dori is a narrow street which starts at Oimachi Station west side and ends at Nishi-Oi station one-mile to the west. In Japanese, Kogaku-Dori means “Optical-science street”. Where does this name come from?

The answer is Nikon company. Nikon is one the largest companies in the world for cameras and optical appliances. The headquarter of this company has long been on this street. Some people started to call this street “Kogaku-Dori” , and then this name became an official one.
