Ryogoku Station is on Sobu-Chuo Line, which crosses Yamanote Line loop at its center, just beyond Sumida River from central Tokyo.

You may notice that this station has a bit of a solemn impression. You are right. This station used to be one of the terminal stations of Tokyo. 100 years ago, there used to be four terminal stations for Tokyo: Tokyo station for the west part of Japan, Ueno station for the north part , Shinjuku Station for the central mountainous part, and Ryogoku station for the east part. Yes, there is only one prefecture to the east of Tokyo, Chiba prefecture, but no doubt was Ryogoku Station the terminal station for the railroads bound for the Chiba area. After continuous improvements of the railroads, Ryogoku Station fell into one of the stations on the line. But still, this station wear such a special atmosphere that no one in Tokyo says this is a nondescript station.
