Asakusa is a well-known town for people outside Japan. During Edo-era, the early-modern era of Japan, Asakusa was probably the busiest town in downtown Edo, and this town still keeps the atmosphere and fragrance of that age. People from outside Japan enjoy strolling around this area, feeling “the typical Japanese culture”.But you can find few people from overseas in this town now. Needless to say, that is because of the restriction of immigration from other countries due to COVID-19.
When I visited Asakusa this day, it was starting to resurrect. Many Japanese people started to visit this town due to the decrease of COVID-19 patients in Japan. I believe the day is not far away when these Japanese people be squeezed out from this town by overwhelming foreign people again.
