When World Trade Center was built in 1970 by Hamamatsucho Station, it was the tallest building in Japan, and was the second skyscraper in Tokyo next to Kasumigaseki Building. At that time many media took photos of Tokyo landscape with these two skyscrapers, touting “the dawn of Tokyo skyscraper age”.
Time passed, countless skyscrapers in Tokyo now, and this building has already been closed. As you can see in the photo, in a few weeks the demolition of this building will start. Compared to that in the USA and in Europe, the life of the buildings are quite short in Japan. Many people in Tokyo miss this landmark, but on the other hand they are looking forward to the next skyscraper in this site which is planned to complete in 2027.
