British Embassy Tokyo

British Embassy Tokyo is located just outside the Royal Palace, which means this is the closest embassy to the Royal Palace among embassies in Tokyo. The UK could get this best position because when the UK opened their embassy in Tokyo just after Meiji Restoration (that is , just after Tokyo became the capital of Japan and it got new name “Tokyo”), the UK was at its culmination of its power and the most advanced country in the world.

But, even after the USA took over the position of “the superpower” , the UK and Japan has been keeping strong relationships until today. I think one reason is that the two countries were in Anglo-Japanese Alliance before WWII, which helped Japan to catch up with western countries at that time. I hope the UK and Japan keep current good relaships in the future.
