For Japan’s modern history of architecture, Tokyo Marine Building claims itself to be epoch-making . Located at the “best place” , between the Royal Palace and Tokyo Station, Tokyo Marine Building, which is the headquarter of Japan’s most prestigious non-insurance company, has pioneered Japan’s office building. When the previous building was completed 100 years ago, it was the first American-style office building in Japan. When the current building was completed 50 years ago, it was the first skyscraper close to the Royal Palace, because at that time office buildings around the Royal Palace regulated themselves not to exceed 31 meters in height. Through heated discussions, the current building was constructed with 100 meters in height. The rest is history : now this building is the shortest around this area.
Tokyo Marine Building is opening another era now. The current building was closed this year to be demolished. At this site the 3rd building will be built. The architecture is revolutionary : it will be a 20-story building constructed with woods. People in Tokyo are looking forward to see and visit this new building six years from now.
