Sakura-Zaka means “Hill of Cherry Blossoms”. Sakura-Zaka is located at the edge of Tokyo city in the west, a few minutes’ walk from Numabe station on Tokyu Tamagawa Line.
Sakura-Zaka is not the name of this area, and there are plenty of hills with cherry trees in Tokyo. But, everyone points out this hill when he/she hears Sakura-Zaka. Why? That is because this hill was featured in a famous popular song , the title of which is “Sakura-Zaka”, by a famous Japanese singer 20 years ago. After this song became popular , many people visited this hill, and were impressed by the atmosphere of this hill, partly because this hill has a long history which dates back to more than 100 years ago. Last week, it was announced that the singer will sing this song in Kohaku year-end song festival on NHK TV on 31DEC. Probably many people are already visiting this hill again.
