Shimo-Maruko

people in town

Shimo-Maruko is almost at the west edge of Tokyo 23 -ku area, close to Tamagawa river. Shimo-Maruko station is the third from Kamata station .

Frankly, I need to say Shimo-Maruko is really a nondescript town as you see in the photo. But, historically it was not . 40 years ago this station was the gateway to one of the main industrial areas in Tokyo. Since this area is barely within Tokyo city area , and it is almost flat and had a lot of space , this area was filled with various kinds of factories. At that time Shimo-Maruko station was flooded with factory workers at commute hours.

But, as time goes by, such factories have moved to other places in Japan or to overseas. After that, this area became a nondescript residential area. The only factory that reminds people of its days is Canon factory, which is still in this area even today.
