Chuo Line itself runs longer: this line starts from Tokyo Station to the west, far beyond Tokyo metropolitan area, to Nagoya 200 miles away from Tokyo. But, for people living in Tokyo, Chuo Line is the line which penetrates Yamanote Line, connecting two very important stations, Tokyo and Shinjuku.
Interestingly, Shinjuku is not conveniently located for people around Tokyo Station. Shinjuku is located at the opposite side of Yamanote loop line. Chuo Line is actually the only line which connects these two towns directly. That is why this line is listed as one of the most important railway lines in Tokyo.
